Apply to Middle School

Your Brearley Journey Starts Here.

We review a student's application with an attention to character, intellectual curiosity and a desire to grow and be challenged both individually and collectively among a diverse community of students, families, alumnae/alumni, staff, faculty and administrators. We are seeking academically motivated students who will contribute positively to our community and parents/guardians who will also partner well with us as we foster a more inclusive program.

The deadline to submit an admission application to Brearley was Friday, December 6. If you missed that deadline, you can still submit an Application of Interest, which we will consider if additional spaces in our classes materialize. You can submit your Application of Interest via this link

Admission Process

1. Application Part I and Fee

The application fee is $85. Families applying for financial assistance should use code FA2024 when prompted to waive the application fee. Apply here.

2. Campus Tour

Campus tours are not a required part of our process. They are available to any applicant family that would like to visit Brearley. You can choose from two tour options: a small group tour or an individualized tour that will take place before your admission interview. All tours will last 45 minutes.

3. Admission Interview

Applicant families can schedule their in-person interview once Application Part I has been submitted. Interviews must include the student applicant and at least one parent/guardian. Families can register for either an appointment that includes a 45 minute campus tour, or just the interview. Interviews are a required part of the process, but a tour is not.

4. Assessments and Standardized Testing

All applicants are required to take our Brearley math and English assessments. The math assessment will be administered at the time of the family tour and interview. Dates for the English assessment have been posted on Ravenna.

For more information about the Brearley assessments, please visit our Assessment FAQ page.

All applicants are also required to take the ISEE or SSAT exam. We suggest you register for a test date no later than December 2024 so that an applicant's admission file is complete by January 2025.

You may register for the ISEE exam online here. Our ISEE code is 333475.

You may register for the SSAT here. Our SSAT code is 1799.

Please remember to list Brearley as one of the schools to which you are applying, so that test results will be sent directly to us.

5. Supplemental materials: Application Part II, Official Transcripts, Teacher References and Graded Essay

Application Part II should be completed by the applicant. It consists of short answer questions that will help us to learn more about who they are.

Links to submit transcripts are accesible via your Ravenna portal. Parents/guardians should make sure to delegate links to the appropriate individuals at the applicant's school to upload transcripts.

Starting on November 1, links to the required English and Math teacher reference forms will be available on Ravenna. Parents/guardians should make sure to delegate the links to their child's teachers.
